Abagwaro Solomon Island Oceanic Armlets Currency Trade Shell Beads
These are two armlets, body adornments from the Solomon Islands. These are good specimens, finely worked with shell disks that are very tiny, hand woven with a diamond pattern with a geometric weave. These were used for ceremonial events and traded as currency as highly valued objects. They are a traditional indigenous use not for tourist curio trade. They used a natural fiber that is braided on the fringe. One is larger that the other. They have been kept in a showcase from a collector estate sale. In good condition the larger one measures 8 ½ x 5 inches not including the fringe. The smaller one 7 ½ x 5
