Oceanic Fiji Archipelago War Club South Pacific 19th C.
This long heavy hardwood club is interesting because of the inscriptions written on it. “Eastern Fiji, Archipelago, Fiji War Club, Fiji War Club” There are other faded printing.
This club is made with heavy hardwood, with a good dark patina, it has a metal hook and eye on the end for hanging. Called a Cali or Sali, these handheld clubs were highly regarded, showing strength and protection. Circa 1880 or earlier, it measures 37 inches long x 5 inches wide, there is a crack along one side about 8 inches long.
