Northwest Coast Orca Killer Whale Dance Stick Wand
This is not a rattle; it is a dance stick. Circa 1920 it came from a collection of early pieces most items were from Northern Vancouver Island. It is carved from one piece of wood, then added a dorsal fin and two side fins. It has been repainted black, the eyes and mouth have been repainted red and white. You can see underneath the paint ovoid and gill lines from the original work. When you hold it from the tail, you can feel it, that it has been danced. It measures 14 inches long x 2 and ½ inches wide at the body x 6 inches tall includes the dorsal fin.
