Coast Salish First Nation’s Trophy Basket Double Handles

This is a rare basket, a trophy shape made for presentation. It is a hand-woven basket made from inner cedar bark, decorated with a simple checkered red cherry bark, black fermented cherry bark, and tule cattail. It has a star fish shaped base. The double handles have a graceful shape. It has woven with the cedar slats inside the cedar bark. It stands 10 ¼ inches tall x 11 inches wide that includes the handles. In good condition, it has some glue showing on the bottom where it attaches to the base of the basket. Circa 1930 – 50.
