British Art by Philip Gregory Needell Barnard Castle Bridge on the River Tees England

This is an oil painting on wood artist board signed from and back, titled “Barnard Castle Bridge”. This is an original work done by Philip Gregory Needell, British B. 1886 – 1974. This is one of two painting I have listed by this artist. He is listed in the E. Benezit Dictionary of Painters. His work has sold at Christies Auction in London, his work is in private collections. Barnard Castle is a market town in Teesdale, County Durham in Northern England, named after a 12th century medieval castle ruins. It is signed in the lower left on the front and under the title on the back. It is also written the varnish he used “varnished with Roberson’s R.P.F.”. The painting is framed in a wooden frame with gold paint and held in with square nails. In good condition it measures 16 x 12 ¼ inches 41 x 30 cm, with out the frame.
