Description
Asian Embroidered Dragon Scroll Banner Japanese Meiji Black Velvet
Oriental Textile Gold Thread
This is a late 19th century Oriental three toed Dragon chasing the pearl, he caught the pearl. Stunningly embroidered using gold and silver metallic thread, with raised stump type embossed texture. They mainly used the couching stitch, it also has appliqued red wool, done on a black velvet base. The velvet is worn in many places. This Meiji period banner, would have been used for special occasions. I first thought it was from a panel from a room divider, it is too large. It measure 105 inches x 20 inches.
It is back with a natural loose woven flax like backing.
This textile is in old condition, but overall a good look, and still can be displayed as a tapestry. It can be rolled up like a scroll for easy shipping.
