South American Peru Shipibo Pottery Amazon Olla Vessel
From a collection that was gathered in the 1970’s estate piece. This is a piece of traditional unique Shipibo-Conibo primitive tribal pottery from Peru. The Indigenous woman of the small villages along the Southern Amazon River, have been making this type of coil pottery for centuries. They use clay coil base pottery, then scrape with a seed, polish, coated with a slip , they paint the design, which is a chanting language, they fire inside a metal pot covered in ashes in a big fire. It is then covered in resin to seal it.
They were used a water, beer vessels. In good condition, some light wear on the paint. It has a good ring, when you tap it. It stands 10 ½ inches tall x 9 ½ inches wide. Shipibo pottery once you discover it, you will love it.
