Persian Lacquer Pen Box Qalamdan Calligraphy Pen
This is a 19th century hand painting lacquer pen box, made from paper-mache, from Persia, Qatar region, called a Qalamdan. It is exquisitely hand painted floral background with birds and butterflies in beautiful multi colours. It has a central Purple Iris with roses in full bloom and buds. It has rounded ends, and slides out to show a drawer hold a painted lacquer nib pen. This pen case was used for calligraphy for poetry and illustrations. In good condition, some wear from use, it measures 9 ½ inches long, 1 ½ inches wide. Price in USD.
