This rug circa 1900 is a hand knotted wool and cotton rug made in Asia. Similar rugs are made in the Peking area of China at that time for the European market. This indigo blue dyed rug, with strong blue shades darker and lighter, decorated with a central medallion, with a central Shou Character, surrounded with smaller medallions. It has a trailing geometric four corners, also known as tumbling logs, or four seasons design along the border, depicting blessings, longevity and good fortune.
It has been used but has good pile. It measures 47 x 23 inches not including the fringe. It has even colour, the sunlight from the window is making a colour change, the colour is same throughout.
