Massive Burl Wood Bowl Early American C. 1780 – 1820 Deep Patina
There are two major cracks and two major holes, that make this bowl so special. This an early type of Colonial primitive wooden bowl, very heavy it weighs over 16 lbs. It has varied hues of dark to light brown colour. Beautiful deep patina. There is a carved ridge design along the top and bottom of the bowl. It is hand carved out of a huge burl, thick and rich. It measures 16 ½ inches wide x 9 inches tall and 1 inch thick. It has had lots of use, possibly for a Mortar.
It came from a Washington State art market collection.
Please note there are old bent metal nails on the base around the hole, possible attempt at a repair.
