ANTIQUE Silk Persian Rug Carpet…100 BIRDS… Estate Sale Kerman Kashan Tabriz Qum
COLLECTIBLE Vintage Hand-knotted
This is a decorative collectible antique rug, made of silk on silk. Silk warp and weft. This is an estate sale rug from a collector of fine carpets. This displays nicely on the wall, and was a treasured piece. It has a central medallion, with prayer rug like points on both sides. I counted over 130 birds throughout this piece. There is about 10 – 12 knots per inch, it is totally hand-knotted. It has low pile, down to the bottom, with some touch up with ink, drawn in. Look at the photos closely, I tried to capture the low nap, on this piece.
I don’t know the age, I am guessing it is late 19th century. Also I do not know the tribal group who made this, I would love your opinion. I am leaning towards Kerman. This carpet should be used as a tapestry rather than a floor covering, it has a beautiful overall look.
In antique used condition it measures 83 x 56 inches.
Condition – Fair, low pile, some restoration in design
Size — 66 x 52 inches
